The Bilata Legal Pathways Program began as a conversation over a cup of coffee between the unit coordinator of the Bachelor of laws course at CDU and the Manager of the Law and Justice section at NAAJA which was to highlight the lack of numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the Legal Profession.

The programs key focus is on preparing participants for the course, from connections to university services, to legal theories.

The program runs through some general legal classes in order to introduce participants to the kinds of work they are expected to face upon commencement.

It is also recognised that there may be participants who are not from Darwin. In order to cater for this, the program also likes to give participants a short tour of Darwin, highlighting all of its key spots. Also, the program runs activities with a focus on team building so that participants can begin to feel comfortable by building relationships with those they are going to be studying alongside with.
